Quick answersStill need help?
What is VeloAssist?

VeloAssist controls remote machines from your Mac, iPhone, iPhone Duo or iPad. You install VeloAssist Host on each machine you want to reach and use the VeloAssist controller app from any of those Apple devices.

Where do I get VeloAssist and VeloAssist Host?

The VeloAssist controller will be available from the App Store. Download VeloAssist Host from assist.velosec.au. The Host is signed by LV-223 Pty Ltd and notarised by Apple. Only download it from this site.

What do I need?

The VeloAssist controller needs macOS 15 or later on a Mac, iOS 18 or later on iPhone and iPhone Duo, or iPadOS 18 or later on iPad. VeloAssist Host is available for macOS 15 or later today.

Which Host platforms are supported?

VeloAssist Host is available for macOS today. Windows and Linux Hosts are planned so the same VeloAssist controller can reach every kind of remote machine.

Does it work away from home?

Yes. On the same network, devices connect directly over the local network. Away from home, VeloAssist finds a direct internet path between your devices, and can also connect over Tailscale if you use it. There is nothing to set up on your router.

Does my screen go through your servers?

No. Sessions run directly between your devices and are encrypted end to end. A small signalling service only helps your devices find each other, and cannot read what they exchange. See the privacy policy for exactly what it sees.

Do you keep logs of my connections?

No. The signalling service that helps your devices find each other keeps no request logs, so there is no record on our side of which devices connected to which remote machine, from where, or when. We only see overall counts and error rates, with no addresses or device identifiers. The one record of your sessions is the activity log kept by VeloAssist Host, which only you control.

What if two networks block direct connections?

Some networks, such as strict corporate or hotel networks, block every direct path. VeloAssist does not relay sessions through our servers, so in that case it tells you, and Tailscale on both devices is the simplest fix.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no VeloAssist account. Devices trust each other through pairing: you approve each new device on the Host, and can revoke it at any time.

How do I pair a device?

Choose Pair a device… in the Host, then scan the QR code on iPhone, iPhone Duo or iPad, or enter the matching code on Mac. The same short code appears on both devices so you can check nobody is in between. See Pair a device.

Why does the macOS Host need Screen Recording and Accessibility?

On macOS, Screen Recording lets the Host share the screen and Accessibility lets it apply keyboard and pointer input from paired controllers. macOS asks for both when you first open the Host.

How do I know when someone is connected?

The Host's menu bar icon turns green and a notification appears when a session starts. macOS also shows its own purple screen recording indicator. End active session in the Host's menu disconnects at once.

Does my machine list sync between devices?

Yes, if you turn on iCloud sync in the app's Settings. Your machines, groups, notes and tags sync across your Mac, iPhone, iPhone Duo and iPad through your own iCloud account, and the text is end-to-end encrypted.

Can I use Tailscale?

Yes. Add the remote machine's Tailscale address in its details, or add it from the Tailscale list in the sidebar, and VeloAssist connects over your tailnet when the machine is not on the same network.

What does it cost?

VeloAssist is in testing. Pricing will be announced before release.
